BaZi — the Four Pillars of Destiny — is the East Asian counterpart to the birth chart. Instead of planets, it reads the year, month, day and hour you were born as four pairs of characters: a Heavenly Stem and an Earthly Branch each, eight characters in all.
The center of the chart is the day stem, your day master — the element the whole reading is measured against. The other seven characters relate to it as resources, output, wealth, authority or peers: the ten gods. The balance of the five elements shows what the chart runs hot and cold on.
